SDS: How did you find your performance?
Coco Mageeda: I really enjoyed my performance, it was a super nice environment, it was great to be able to showcase some of my new songs on stage.
SDS: What got you into music ?
Coco Mageeda: I’ve sang as far back as I can remember. I started writing poetry when I was 8 years old, which then led to me writing lyrics when I was 13, I would spend my Friday and Sunday evenings on the train to and from boarding school writing away. Writing became a therapeutic and self talk avenue for me. I would play around with music, make video cover remixes and I even had a YouTube page where I would upload them. It’s only recently that I decided to pluck up some courage and start releasing my music professionally and start performing, as this a life long passion.
SDS: Who or what are you influences?
Coco Mageeda: I’m majorly influenced by the late 80s, 90s & 2000s eras, I’m a bit of an old school head, I love the likes of Lauryn Hill, Floetry, Lalah Hathaway, Sade, Talib Kweli, Tupac, Mary J Blige, the list goes on.
Another influence of my mine, is the lessons I learn on daily basics, the trauma and the joy that I see my friends and family experience. They always give me writing points.
SDS: Do you have any releases coming soon?
Coco Mageeda: I have an EP coming out late January, I also just released an 8 track hip-hop soul EP on the 2nd October, it’s called BREAK FREE. The tracks I performed are all on my latest EP.
